Summer Mountaineering Gear List

  • Non-cotton top and bottom base layers
  • Light puffy overcoat and or other insulation layer (fleece, synthetic or down)
  • Comfortable and flexible pants (no jeans) and top
  • Waterproof/windproof outer shell jacket
  • Light rain pants (optional)
  • Leather gloves (light weight)
  • Baseball cap
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • 2 liters of water (water bag/bladder recommended)
  • Lunch and quick energy snacks
  • Approach shoes, rock climbing shoes, hiking boots (discuss footwear with your guide)
  • Collapsible Trekking Pole(s) (optional)*
  • Backpack (25-40 liters)*
  • Small 2nd pack recommended for Olympus and other multi-pitch routes
  • Harness
  • Belay/rappel device *
  • Helmet *

Winter and Spring Mountaineering Equipment List:

  • Non-cotton top and bottom base layers
  • Puffy, hooded overcoat and/or other insulation layer (fleece, synthetic or down)
  • Waterproof/windproof outer shell jacket and pants
  • Wool (and liner) socks
  • Waterproof snow gloves and mittens or spare gloves
  • Lightweight climbing and / or fleece gloves
  • Warm hat or balaclava for under helmet
  • Baseball cap (optional)
  • Sunglasses and goggles
  • Sunscreen
  • 2 liters of water (water bag/bladder not recommended)
  • Lunch and quick energy snacks
  • Crampon-compatible mountaineering boots with rigid sole**
  • Gaiters
  • Mountaineering crampons (non-rigid, 10-point lightweight designs are ideal)**
  • Backpack (25-45 Liters)*
  • Straight-shaft mountaineering axe**
  • Harness*
  • Belay device *
  • Helmet *
  • Beacon *
  • Shovel *
  • Probe *

Overnight Winter and Spring Mountaineering Equipment List:

  • Non-cotton top and bottom under layers (capilene or polypro)
  • Puffy Overcoat and or other insulation layer (fleece, synthetic or down)
  • Waterproof/windproof outer shell jacket and pants
  • 2 pairs of Wool and liner socks
  • Waterproof snow gloves and mittens, lightweight gloves
  • Warm hat and sun cap, thin hat or balaclava for under helmet
  • Sunglasses and goggles
  • Sunscreen
  • 2 liters of water (at least one wide-mouth Nalgene type bottle; water-bags not recommended)
  • Lunch and quick energy snacks; drink mix (optional)
  • Touring ski boots or plastic double mountaineering boots (warm and crampon-compatible)**
  • Alpine touring, telemark skis, split snowboard with Climbing Skins or snowshoes**
  • Ski poles with powder baskets**
  • Beacon, shovel, probe*
  • Backpack (min. 5000cu. in.)**
  • Gaiters (optional)
  • Crampons (light, flexible 10-point recommended)**
  • Ice axe**
  • Helmet*
  • Harness*
  • Locking carabiner and belay device*
  • Sleeping bag rated to 0 F.
  • Therm-a-rest inflatable sleeping pad and 1 ensolite pad or 2 ensolite pads
  • Insulated plastic mug w/ lid, bowl & spoon
  • Headlamp w/ fresh battery
  • Toiletries

UMA will provide group gear such as tent and cooking equipment. UMA will provide dinner and breakfast.
