Colby grew up in Vermont, skiing since age 2. After years of ski racing, he bought a touring setup during college and moved to Jackson, WY in the fall of 2006. The jagged peaks of the Tetons lured him in and soon he was skiing nearly every day in the backcountry. After 5 years of ski mountaineering and alpine climbing in Jackson, he moved to Salt Lake City in the fall of 2011.
Colby now skis exclusively in the backcountry, earning his turns throughout the winter. When the snow is gone he can be usually be found climbing one of the thousands of rock or alpine routes in and around the Wasatch. Colby has also climbed and skied steep lines in the Green and White Mountains, the Adirondacks, the Cascades, the Tetons, the Beartooths and Wind River Range.
Colby is WFR and CPR certified and received his Level II avalanche certification through the American Avalanche Institute.
